Grey Water Explained
Greywater is the water that is discharged from showers, basins, sinks and washing machines. Reusing greywater on your garden is an easy way to reduce your water consumption.
Do
- Use low risk sources of greywater such as water from the bath, shower or laundry rinse water.
- Ensure greywater use is confined to within your property.
- Check your laundry detergent for suitability and use low-phosphorous detergents.
- Carefully monitor the impact of greywater on your garden and check if there are any regulations that must be met.
Don't
- Let children or pets play near greywater.
- Use kitchen waste water as it is heavily contaminated with fats, greases and solids.
- Use greywater to water vegetables that are eaten raw.
- Store untreated greywater for more than 24 hours.
